Diabetic Diet
NOR HAVE I BEEN COMPENSATED FINANCIALLY OR OTHERWISE BY ANY OF THE PRODUCTS OR SERVICES MENTIONED IN THIS ARTICLE. ALL TRADEMARKS AND COPYRIGHTS OF THE BRANDS MENTIONED ARE THE PROPERTY OF THEIR RESPECTIVE OWNERS.
2012, 30 YEARS OLD: My liver was swollen, and kidney function was on a rapid decline - dialysis wasn’t too far off. The medication I was prescribed due to a Type 2 Diabetes misdiagnosis 2 years earlier was doing a lot more harm than good - soon I found myself hospitalized.
It was there that I was accurately diagnosed as a Type 1 Diabetic.
It was also there that it became painfully apparent that I needed to start being accountable for my own health and that two major lifestyle improvements needed to be made, immediately.
Exercise & Diet
I engulfed myself into the latest diabetes mellitus research, understanding and advancements.
Both in traditional & alternative treatments, medicines, viewpoints and case studies. It’s amazing how focused & relentless you become when it’s YOUR health and life at stake. Truth matters, and finding the truth meant sifting through all they hype, in order to uncover inarguable efficacy & successful protocols.
Exercise
Of course I knew that exercise was important - yet like many of us do, being overwhelmed with work & life in general, it had unwisely fallen off of my daily list of priorities. Now, it’s not only a priority, it’s a vital part of my daily routine regardless of how busy I am, or where I’m at.
And that’s only possible thanks to David Hall’s Cellerciser.
The most convincing research brought “rebounding” to my attention as far as the perfect exercise for diabetics, and hence the beginning of my quest, and filtering of all the rebounder mini trampolines on the market.
During my search, all of the marketing, catchy advertisements, clever pitches and the like all went out the window.
I tried several rebounder mini trampolines, of all price points and models and nothing out there can compare to the quality & efficacy I get from the Cellerciser.
The models based on bungee cords & rubber bands had too little resistance for me to notice any muscle stimulation, and also caused pronation in my knees and ankles - which can be very harmful after regular long term use. So that was an easy disqualification.
During my trials with the other typical spring based rebounder mini trampolines, the jarring effect was just too much, almost painful on some. But, on the health practitioner recommended Cellerciser, it’s inventor David Hall, has perfected the balance between resistance & allowance with their patented triple tiered spring. Really quite remarkable. I could immediately feel the difference.
Even when on a spring based brand that compared itself to the Cellerciser, due to it’s imitation oval spring & portability - my body reacted negatively. It also had an extremely weak frame made of plastic that would’ve broke within a few of my physically abusive trips that I would take it on - being thrown in and out of my car, through airport luggage systems and what not.
You see, being an entrepreneur with a thriving online business, I am rarely at home for longer than a week at a time, constantly traveling - meeting with current as well as prospective clients - and the only product capable of surviving the gauntlet of my requirements, both on efficacy & on quality, is the Cellerciser. Nothing else came close.
I’m not exaggerating when I say that the durability, portability and complete mind & body workout I get from the Pro Tri-Fold Cellerciser is unparalleled - and is the only viable solution for my busy & unpredictable schedule.
I’ve found that for my optimal physical health & mental clarity, 10 to 30 minute sessions twice a day (morning & night) - has taken me to another level of existence.
Then throughout the day when I start to feel groggy and a bit of mental fog starts to intrude, normally around midday or late afternoon, I’ve discovered that a few bounces is an extremely effective and all natural stimulant!
There’s no other exercise program or piece of equipment that can accomplish even similar results that I consistently get with the Cellerciser. Especially within that amount of time and regardless of where I’m at, home or away.
Good Circulation is Paramount
Before I had integrated Cellercising into my daily routine, bad circulation was the one of the most troubling aspects of my diabetes.
I don’t need to remind most of you about the dangerous & extremely scary side effects of having poor circulation, but I will because of how serious it is. Blindness, impotence, numbness, inability to effectively fight infections, loss of limbs (decapitations), and so on and so on. Even death.
During that time before Cellercising was habitual, annoying and dreadfully consistent pain would plague my lower legs and feet. To the point where working was nearly impossible, not to mention simple joys of life such as sitting down and conversing with friends and family. All of the above were interrupted because I was unable to sit still, and needed to be constantly walking around, or even running, in order for the discomfort and pain to subside.
I’m extremely grateful to no longer have that issue. It was an incredible process to experience, and feel the nerve endings regenerating due to the increased blood flow that I accredit to the use of the Cellerciser.
What is also an interesting quick tid bit, is that I no longer get sick as much. Looking into why this may be, it is my conclusion that the Cellerciser is actually helping circulate lymph throughout my lymphatic system - which unlike the heart and blood circulation system, does not have a “pump”....
Diet
Many of the solutions here are quite obvious, and didn’t take as much trial and error, once you grasp the concept that most carbs, especially the starchy ones, are just as harmful as sugar, and that avoidance of this crack like substance will dramatically & immediately have a positive effect on your body and mind - you’re on the right path.
Learning to fill my plate with as many leafy greens and vegetables as possible, and fewer, if any, carbohydrate loaded foods such as white potatoes, rice & pasta, had me feeling and looking optimized to a point that I hadn’t experienced since I was in my early twenties.
Fresh leafy greens and vegetables are always preferential of course, but I’ve found buying frozen is helpful in order to keep it readily on hand & results in a lot less waste.
Trust me, as a hardcore foodie, I know how difficult this is. Studies have shown that sugar & carbs can be comparative to cocaine, a class A drug, regulated by the federal government and deemed so dangerous it’s illegal.
A good piece of advice that was given to me, if you can’t seem to immediately minimize it or stop cold turkey - is to use the 50/50 rule. Meaning, always have have your plate half full of leafy greens or vegetables regardless of what’s on the other side.
The same principle can be applied if you have a handful of chips, at least have a handful of almonds along with it. Drank a diet soda (which is terrible by the way)...? Follow it up with the at minimum an equal amount of water immediately afterwards. And so on….
I know these cravings are real, and the 50/50 rule gives my body the ability to counter these negative habits when I am weak and give in to cravings. At least to a point wherein I can get back to a more disciplined and stable emotional state of mind again.
So sit down meals where not actually that hard for me to improve on, since let’s be honest, properly prepared healthy salads (no store bought dressings, use oil, vinegar, lemon and or avocado instead) and vegetables are delicious. But drinks and snack foods are a whole other ball game.
Finding replacements that can actually compete on the same level with flavor & satisfaction was and is still extremely difficult, but is imperative for our well being. I am not a dietician, and I am well aware that the jury is not fully out on a lot of these items and such, but I’ll share with you my favorite quick food, drink and snack food hacks that I feel comfortable indulging in while maintaining a diabetic friendly diet.
My favorite Drink Mix/Soda Substitute:
Brewed Stevia Lemonade
To take this to the next level, sometimes I’ll add in a whole food beet extract supplement or a green whole food supplement, to give it that extra health benefit. But never too much that it alters the flavor to the point where it’s not enjoyable. I will drink this whenever a soda craving hits, and surprisingly 99% of the time this will quench those desires.
Also, if you’re traveling, and bottled water just doesn’t fit the bill - “VitaminWater Zero” is sweetened with stevia instead of the other zero carb artificial sweeteners. Best on the road option I’ve found that is actually in most gas stations and grocery stores at a reasonable price.
My Favorite Snack Food/Chips/Crackers Substitute:
Cracked Pepper/Salted Sunflower Seeds
Say no to pork rinds. Although they have zero carbs, they wreak havoc on your liver & kidneys.
Depending on the brand, watch out for MSG and other undesirable flavor additives - but this seems to be the only decent substitute that I’ve found to replace crackers and chips. Packed with flavor another benefit is that cracking them and removing the shell is an added process, so unlike a handful of chips which be consumed in seconds, time & energy is expanded by a handful of seeds as well.
On the Go Meal Replacement:
Avocado with Salt & Pepper
You can pick up avocados, year round at any grocery store, 24/7. Dubbed the perfect food for diabetics by many credible health food experts, it’s jammed packed with goodness, and can actually fill you up due to it’s healthy fat content. Not to mention it’s so much more healthier than meal replacement bars which are essentially candy bars with added protein, and if low carb, normally contain all sorts of harmful additives.
Starch Replacement Food:
Cauliflower
Can be diced or “riced” for the perfect rice replacement. Can also be boiled or steamed and then mashed with garlic along with other herbs & seasonings - delicious substitute for mashed potatoes. There’s also numerous other awesome recipes on google and pinterest if you search for them.
Important note - yes in general, I always seek out non-gmo & organic items when they are available. When they are not, I do the best I can. Raw food is extremely beneficial, and the more the better. Yet I find cooking empowers & enables me to enjoy some of the flavors & textures that I’m accustomed to - and hence more likely to stay consistent on this regimen.
I find that it’s not beneficial for me, or even reasonably possible for anyone to subscribe long term & limit yourself to any branded diet in particular such as Atkins, Paleo, Raw, etc...
Personally, I have cherry picked from all of them. The idea that you have to join a team and put on a jersey in this matter is simply ridiculous and counterproductive, as I feel that there is good to be found within most of them, and the most feasible scenario for anyone in the real world is a 100% individualistic approach that fits into one's palate & lifestyle.
Meat is a sensitive issue, and my personal ideology is that when consumed sparingly, in time of season, is the best approach - according to your body’s individual needs. I admire those who go without, and I absolutely will not condemn its use either - as I feel this matter isn’t fully settled, and won’t be for some time. Yet in general, I speculate as a whole that people eat too much meat and it’s wonderful to see so many plant based alternatives sprouting up!
A must read for every diabetic: If you really would like to dive into the ultimate guide as to what you should and shouldn’t consume as a diabetic, the most comprehensive and highly recommended resource I can point you towards would be Gabriel Cousens’ book, “There is a Cure for Diabetes”.
Brilliantly authored, this book outlines every aspect of the perfect diet/nutritional guidelines for diabetes, and articulately substantiates it through case studies, scientific research and real life implementation. I have yet to fully master & reconcile my life to all of its thorough recommendations, but if you can even start as I have, you will reap the benefits very rapidly.
What I have been able to learn and integrate so far, has been extremely rewarding - from a health, and intellectually informed standpoint as well. If you’re like me, you may have been disappointed and even frustrated by your traditional MD’s and or other health practitioners’ overall lack of understanding and knowledge concerning diabetes. This book will satisfactorily fill that void & give you the answers you are looking for - as well as real hope - like nothing else out there can.
One more final diet recommendation that I consider a crucial aspect of my personal well-being program is Nutriblasting - which yes, can be found on a popular tv, now online, infomercial. There are actually better blenders out there, and I own some of them, but I don’t use them as often because they are slightly more of a hassle to clean and wash afterwards. Nor are they as portable. For the size & efficacy, it does a fantastic job - and I literally take it everywhere similar to the Cellerciser.
So, speed & simplicity is everything for me. With the Nutribullet, I make an extremely healthy green smoothie, rinse and clean the 2 components, and am on my way within minutes. I won’t go into all the recipes, incredible benefits and other details on this, because you can easily just search for the them online for a more comprehensive overview & intriguing visuals. But to give you just a quick basic example of an amazing health booster, here’s my most common nutriblast recipe and some of the ingredient benefits:
Some concoctions are delicious, others not so much - but honestly I utilize these smoothies for their colossal health & wellness benefits more so than for the flavor and or sometimes difficult to get down consistency. It’s a personal choice that I’ve made to consider them more of a supplement if you will, than a delicious treat.... You’ve been warned :)
Conclusion
Wrapping up, since this is an article, and not a novel - within one sentence, I can say that Cellercising for at least 10 minutes a day, minimizing carbs - at worst implementing the 50/50 rule and drinking green based smoothies has dramatically changed my life for the better.
Going from accepting that I may only have a few years or even months of life left, to a fulfilling and joyous life that many only dream about - brings me so much gratitude, that I wanted to share this information with anyone who may need it.
I now have a beautiful family that I love and adore. Damaged, but recovering healthy liver and kidneys. A successful business that I’m able to work hard at and focus on in a way that I couldn’t before.
All from improving 2 correlating lifestyle improvements, diet & exercise.
There are obviously many other beneficial improvements that one can make concerning health, overall well-being, and overcoming the obstacles and effects of diabetes. I just hope, and it’s a sincere hope, that others can benefit from these basic topics and my personal experiences and opinions that I’ve addressed here.
The journey of a diabetic is not an easy one, and the more we speak up and share, the more we can make it easier for each other.

Brewed Stevia Lemonade

- Stevia (Of course for zero carb sweetness)
